We will meet at Shelter 4 (by the historic Ebenezer Covered Bridge) at Mingo Creek County Park in Finleyville, PA promptly at 11 am. At that time Outings Leader Kara Kukovich will lead an orientation in water monitoring and freshwater macroinvertebrate identification, as well as safety procedures. Participants will then work together to take some water monitoring data, such as pH levels and nitrates. Afterwards, participants will use provided nets and other supplies to collect animals in the creek for identification. The identification of the collected organisms will be used to determine the health of the creek.
This outing is ideal for children, families, biology students, and nature enthusiasts. Children under 12 years old should be accompanied by an adult.There is a pavilion with picnic tables nearby if participants want to bring a picnic lunch. There are numerous playgrounds and walking/hiking trails for those who want to extend their trip.
