Please join the Sierra Club GA Chapter and the Sierra Club Military Outdoors for a day at Metro Atlanta's hidden gems. We'll be taking a two-mile trek on the Mile Rock Trail. Folks will meet at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve's Nature Center on Saturday, June 14th at 10 a.m. EST. The Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area is a wonderland of stunningly diverse landscapes just east of Atlanta. The park’s rolling terrain boasts over thirty miles of prime hiking trails that explore lofty mountaintopsserene lakesopen grasslands, and stream-filled forests. Arabia Mountain has long topped our list of favorite Atlanta hiking and running trails, and this two-mile adventure is an excellent primer to the area’s staggeringly beautiful outdoor spaces.

This double-trail loop explores a shady forest, treks through wide-open expanses of granite, and visits a serene glassy lake, all on an easy two-mile loop. This hike’s biological diversity is stunning: towering pines, leafy hardwoods, seasonal wildflowers, mosses, and lichens can be found along its stretch. This landscape is home to Diamorpha smallii, a rare, small plant that blooms a bright crimson in early spring. The route’s elevation change is gentle, making this trail easy for beginners and family-friendly. It serves as one of the SCMO outings leader Lornett Vestal's favorite nature areas in the Atlanta metro area.

Hike the two-mile, kid-friendly loop at Arabia Mountain near Atlanta, following the Mile Rock Trail and Forest Trail through vast rock fields to a glassy, serene lake. We will have time to stop at the nature center, and for the adventurous, we can add a mile and a half to the AWARE nature center. It depends on the group and the weather. Also, a chance to grab lunch on behalf of the Sierra Club Military Outdoors post-hike.  All veterans, active-duty service members, military family members, and civilians are welcome to join us on this day.
