Mohawk Trail State Forest Hike

MA Sierra Club invites you to the Mohawk Trail State Forest to take a scenic 4.5 mile hike along the historic Indian and Mahican-Mohawk trails. This state forest is one of a just a handful of state reserves that contains outstanding ecological features, cultural sites, and recreational opportunities. This includes old growth hemlocks, the tallest white pines in New England, and exceptional mountain scenery within the one thousand foot Deerfield and Cold River Gorges. During the hike we will be stopping periodically to point out flora and fauna and important cultural and ecological landmarks. Also, we will be discussing forest reserves, their importance in the states Forests as Climate Solutions initiative, and the MA chapters campaign to stop logging in the Quabbin, Ware, and Wachusetts watershed forests and turn these public lands into another state reserve. See our campaign petition at the link End logging on public lands of Quabbin, Ware, & Wachusett watershed at the bottom. We look forward to you joining us in July at the Mohawk Trail State Forest.
