Palomas Peak via N. Faulty trail

Hike Palomas Peak Via Faulty Trail. This trail is approximately 7.5 miles long with 1853 elevation gain (according to all trails) and is rated by all trails as moderate to strenuous. We will meet at the Sandia man cave parking. We should be done in 5-1/2 hours if everyone who signs up has a 1.5 to 1.75 mph pace going uphill. (If you don't know your pace, this hike isn't for you)This is a remote trail with some great views and 3 medallion trees that we will try to find. We will stop for water breaks and a snack/lunch break along the way. On the way back we will go by a beautiful picnic area with a stream that's still running. This is a strenuous hike, please only sign up if you are in shape and know your pace.  This trail is approximately 7.5 miles long with 1853 elevation gain (according to all trails) and is rated by all trails as moderate to strenuous.  We will meet at the Sandia man cave parking. We should be done in 5-1/2 hours if everyone who signs up can maintain a 1.5 to 1.75 mph pace.  (If you don't know your pace, this hike isn't for you).

This is a remote trail with some great views and 3 medallion trees that we will try to find.  We will stop for water breaks and a snack/lunch break along the way.

Sign up at: https://www.riograndesierraclub.org/calendar/   Restrictions: No dogs please as it's too onerous for most of them. Children over 13  are allowed if they have hiked 8 miles before recently. talk to the leader for approval.

Bring: water, food, hat, appropriate clothing for the weather. Long sleeves and pants are recommended as about 20% of the trail is overgrown.
Directions: From ABQ, take i25 exit 242 onto 165 for bernallio/placitas.  stay to the Right to go to placitas.  drive 12 miles on 165, the road quality will degrade so you need to have an awd car and be good at avoiding large ruts.Once you see the sign for Sandia man cave, park.  The path to the trail will be right by the parking lot.  We will meet in the parking lot. BE CAREFUL of google maps directions, it will try to take you the LONG way thru cedar crest !! do not use this unless you have 4wd.
