Nature Walk at Bolich Farms, Kempton Twp., Berks on Aug. 9
Bolich Farms is a native meadow conservation project, a new addition to State Game Land 106, in Albany Twp., Berks. The meadow will be blooming with native plants that feed and host many butterfly species including monarchs, swallow tails and fritillaries as well as other insects. The walk will be lead by Karen Campbell, a Certified Pollinator Steward and PA Master Naturalist. Karen will guide us on mown paths about a mile in length. She will talk about the animals' life stories and their mutualism with the native plants.

Karen Campbell will guide a walk at the Bolich Farms Native Meadow Conservation Project in Kempton Twp., Berks County on Saturday, August 9 beginning at 10 am. Bolich Farms is a new addition to State Game Land 106. The Meadow will be blooming with many native plants that host and feed a variety of butterfly species including monarchs, swallowtails and fritillaries. Karen will lead us in our search for these visitors who often frequent the Meadow at this time of year. She will point out the wildlife that has returned to this restored area and share the life histories of these animals along with explaining their mutualism with the plant life in this area. Karen and her husband have also restored their own farmland and she is a talented photographer of insects especially butterflies. You can see Karen's own photography at her website: https://focusonnatives.com. Karen is a Certified Pollinator Steward and a Pennsylvania Master Naturalist. The group leader will be Janice McDermott, Outings Leader, Kittatinny Group, PA Sierra Club. The walk is easy, about a mile in length and mostly level. Rain date is Sunday, August 10th. Water and a carrier, sunscreen, a hat, bug spray, binoculars, walking poles and a snack are suggested; it will last about two hours.
Bolich Farms is in State Game Land 106, Kempton, PA, 19529, located on Hawk Mountain Road between the two places where Pine Swamp Road - a loop - connects to Hawk Mountain Road. The entry is on the north side of HM Road, on the other side from the loop road connections. The parking lot and sign are visible from the Road; there are no facilities.
