Join us on a tour of the Prince George's County Organics Composting Facility in Upper Marlboro, MD.  Learn how yard waste composting using windrows and  food scrap composting using Gore  technology transform organic waste into a valuable soil amendment (Leafgro & Leafgro Gold), while diverting materials from the landfill!

Food scrap composting is a major strategy to address climate change, and prioritized in Prince George's County's Climate Action Plan.  When left in the landfill, food scraps decompose anaerobically (without oxygen), creating methane, a greenhouse gas that's 80 times more impactful on warming than carbon dioxide.  Diverting food scraps from the landfill reduces landfill methane emissions and conserves landfill space; composting food scraps produces a soil amendment in great demand by landscapers, without generating methane.
