Pre-Picnic Hike at Stevens Creek County Park

2.5 mi, 150 ft gain

We’ll start at the Chestnut parking lot, just inside park entrance, then hike along the creek and Stevens Creek Reservoir, continuing on the Loop Trail next to the reservoir.  Due to one steep section and some loose gravel, sturdy shoes and hiking poles are recommended.  Bring water, and dress for the weather. Restrooms near beginning of hike. 

Stevens Creek was historically a part of the Tamien Ohlone linguistic territory, The Tamien thrived in the valley, practicing sustainable living through hunting, fishing, and gathering. Juan Bautista de Anza’s cartographer named the creek Arroyo San Jose de Cupertino in 1776. The current name comes from Elijah Stephens, who led a wagon train to California and settled in the area. The park’s history highlights the importance of preserving natural areas and habitats, contributing to the overall well-being of the Santa Clara Valley.

Directions: From Hwy 85 N, take the Stevens Creek Blvd exit and head west for 1.1 miles.  Turn left at S Foothill Blvd, which becomes Stevens Canyon Rd.  After 1.3 miles the park will be on your left.  Unless you have an annual park pass, pay the $6 fee at the pay machine.
From Hwy 85 S, take the Foothill Expwy exit toward Grant Rd and head south on Foothill Blvd., which becomes Steven Canyon Rd., for 2.0 miles. The park will be on your left.  Continue as above.

We’ll drive up to the picnic site after the hike. There is a fee for the picnic but not for this hike. See separate Calendar item for picnic details.
