Nature-based Remediation of Contaminated Land
This is a presentation by Dr. Danielle Stevenson of her work remediating toxic waste sites using fungi and plants. Why: There is a long history of activism over the Bay Area's oil refineries, which have long burdened surrounding communities with pollution. As these refineries eventually shut down, they will be required to clean up the soil at their heavily contaminated sites. With the recent news that the Valero oil refinery will be closing or repurposed by April 2026, it is important that communities have the opportunity to learn about best practices available for remediation, and be included in planning how they might be applied.
