Seneca Creek Hike

This will be a moderately strenuous hike. We will hike down the Huckleberry Trail from Spruce Knob, about five miles through forests and the high meadows to Judy Springs. From there, we will climb the Seneca Creek Trail to the Trailhead. Note this route reverses what was in the Chapter Newsletter but saves a lot of climbing. This hike has the most spectacular scenery in West Virginia. Also, this area is one threatened by the repeal of the US Forest Service Roadless Rule, so come learn what we want to save. There is no charge for this hike, but donations are welcome.

Bring: Sturdy hiking shoes required, the trail is rocky. We may need to ford the stream several times (less than knee deep), so a pair of flip flops or waterproof boots will help. Bring a day pack with camera, pack a lunch and at least two liters of water, personal medications, rain gear and insect repellent and sun screen. A change of dry clothes (dry shoes socks underwear, pants shirt) is recommended. We can leave those in the car, but it makes the trip home a lot more comfortable. Prepare for rain, blistering heat, and a cold windy day, probably all three!. There is no cell phone service in the canyon.

Additional Directions: Rendezvous at the Huckleberry Trail head at the Spruce Knob Overlook parking area.

Carpool: We may set up a shuttle from the Seneca Creek Trail to Spruce Knob.

Note: Carpool transportation is at the sole risk of the participants.

Cancellation Policy: Activity is held rain or shine, but may be altered due to inclement weather
