Boulder Field Hike: Hickory Run SP
Join us as we enjoy a short hike/walk to Hickory Runs famous boulder field. The field is a geologic wonderland of assorted loosely packed boulders that range in size from 25 feet to several inches in length. The field is 400 feet wide, 1,800 feet long, and about ten feet deep! We will be meeting at the smaller parking lot accessed off to the left of Sand Spring/Boulder Field Road and hiking less than a mile of Stone Trail to swing around to the eastern end of Boulder Field. This will be a short out-and-back walk with plenty of time allotted in the middle to clamber around on and explore the field itself. Well use as many of our senses as we can (namely touch, sound, and feel) to take in the unique qualities of this strange and massive field of rock before heading back to our starting point. Make sure to wear closed-toe shoes with good grip so you can comfortably and safely walk out onto the rocks. Please allow about 20 minutes to get from the campground to the parking lot, as it is a gravel one-way road.
