Description:Join us on the Minneapolis Grand Rounds 17 Mile Bike trip. Let’s beat the heat and start at 8 AM. Pace 8 to 10 miles with pauses for traffic crossing and one water stop at Lake Harriet Bandshell. Bike trail will follow the River Parkway, Midtown Greenway, city lakes of Bde Mka Ska, Harriet and Nokomis, finishing up the River Parkway back to Loons Coffee.
This trail has a few climbs or hills including the Martin Olav Sabo bridge. It is all paved with a few stops for vehicle traffic intersections. It is a great route, beautiful and fun to do in the summer. Come with us and learn the connections to bike the loop.
Whenever my husband and I bike this loop, we are in awe of our beautiful city parks. It is a close-up tour of how beautiful the lakes, river and creek areas are.
We will meet back at Loons Coffee for a short meeting about how to take action on Sierra Club’s web site, environmental advocacy-specific actions like calling, calls-to-action for key votes in our cities, counties and state and donating to the local chapter. Our earth needs us to come together and protect our waters, skies and soil! Anyone can get a beverage, snack or lunch at Loons Coffee. The owner has been highly supportive of North Star Sierra Club meeting here.
Equipment needed: A functional bike for paved paths, a helmet, a water bottle or camel back. Closed-toe tennis shoes or biking shoes. May consider sunglasses and sunscreen. Have a good bike lock if you plan on leaving your bike to use the bathroom or order food. We can all take turns watching bikes too.
Level of Difficulty: Moderate (due to the distance and some of the inclines including the Martin Olav Sabo Bridge.)
