Suicide Rock Hike
Friday, August 15 7:00 AM

This is a moderately strenuous 6.7 mile hike with 1866 ft. elevation gain to the top of Suicide Rock (7548 ft.). Throughout the hike you will see views of Tahquitz peak across Strawberry Valley and what the San Jacinto wilderness has to offer. We will meet at the first parking lot of the Idyllwild Nature Center (off Hwy 243, before the kiosk) which is across the street from Deer Spring Trail. Note that there are no bathrooms accessible at the trailhead or parking lot. We will proceed along Deer Springs Trail for 2.3 miles to the intersection with the Suicide Rock trail. We will follow this trail for 1 mile North-East to the destination, where we will stop for lunch or snack and admire the scenic views of the valley and town below. This is an out-and-back trail, so we will descend following the same path we took to get to the destination in reverse. BRING: sturdy boots, 2+ liters of water, hiking poles (optional), lunch or snacks, sun screen, a hat, and layered clothing.  LEADER: Matthew Gonzalez, 951-473-9897, 4matthewgonzalez@gmail.com CO-LEADER: John St. Clair SANTA MARGARITA GROUP
