This hike will cover an eight-mile loop including the Appalachian Trail, Turk Run Trail, and Moorman River Trail in Shenandoah National Park. It will go along ridge tops and rivers, and will offer great views of the surrounding countryside since the trees will be bare this time of year The route starts with a gradual uphill walk of several miles along the AT. It then turns downhill and eventually follows Turk Run. At the bottom of the descent, where Turk Run meets the Moorman River, the route turns back toward Jarman Gap, following the Moorman River for several miles in another gradual uphill climb. The hike is listed as strenuous due to the distance and elevation change, but the uphills are not very steep - just lengthy. Total hiking time will be about four hours; total elevation change about 1650 ft. There are several minor stream crossings on the way.
