Climate change is no longer just about the future. The planet has reached a 1-degree Celsius increase in heat. Join a bike ride to learn about climate change as it can affect the Anacostia River and nearby communitiesPrince George's County Climate Stewards Rod Smith and Mary Ellsworth will lead a 10-mile bike ride with stops to look for evidence of climate change along the Anacostia River and Northwest Branch, with talks about anticipated changes as our region warms. We'll look for and name some of the many streams that flow into the Anacostia that make up the Anacostia Watershed. We will identify key wetlands and features that give the potentially rising river and nearby communities resilience against flooding. We describe some of the on-going research being conducted by area organization to access the impact of temperature and precipitation changes, and also mention some of the resources available for county citizens. Hands-on activities along the trails will highlight the important roll of trees in adapting to climate change. Participants will be encouraged to take part in an ongoing game as we ride, ending in a prize for best observations.
