Snowshoe at Ellis Trail

Sunday March 1: Snowshoe at Ellis Trail. for those who have snowshoe'd before. sign up to meet at ellis trailhead in the Sandias. This high altitude, three-hour long outing is approximately 3.5 miles round trip with between 300 - 500 feet of elevation gain. We will depart from the lower Ellis trailhead parking lot and proceed along the Ellis trail with several stops to enjoy stunning views all the way to the continental divide. The group will stay together. Please make sure you are physically fit - snowshoeing at this altitude is roughly 2x as hard as hiking. Appropriate for children over 13 with parent or legal guardian. No dogs, please. Register no later than Feb 25. For those who have been snowshoeing before.  sign up to meet at Ellis trailhead in the Sandias.
This high altitude, three-hour long outing is approximately 3.5 miles round trip with between 300 - 500 feet of elevation gain. We will depart from the lower Ellis trailhead parking lot and proceed along the Ellis trail with several stops to enjoy stunning views all the way to the continental divide. We will cover tips for safely traversing on snowshoes. The group will stay together.  Please make sure you have a decent level of fitness  - snowshoeing at this altitude is roughly 2x as hard as hiking.  Appropriate for children over 13 with parent or legal guardian. No dogs, please. Limited number of participants.
Bring:  Appropriate winter attire for weather down into the 20's, snowshoes, trekking poles, water, snacks lunch and any other health and comfort items necessary.

Cost: $5 USFS fee to park at the crest, pay at the USFS pay station or online, otherwise a Cibola Forest or other USFS/US Park Service pass will be required.

Carpool: Carpools are at participants' own risk. An email will go out to facilitate.

Note: Carpool transportation is at the sole risk of the participants.

Cancellation Policy: Heavy snow, storm or high winds (over 20mph) or temperatures below 15 degrees F will result in cancellation.
