Great Trinity Forest Day Hike - Saturday, April 18th 2026
Registration Required - Please attend if you register

Dallas Sierra Club is excited to offer a day hike in the Great Trinity Forest in Dallas. This will be a unique opportunity to hike off trail in the wilds of Dallas.  Wear your boots and be prepared to be awed (and possibly get your feet wet).  The hike will go off the main trails, down old service roads, and tucked away in little parcels.
Explore parts of the McCommas Bluff Preserve few people visit, including some south of the Trinity River with majestic old pecans plus gorgeous woods and prairies off Elam Creek. After a break for snacks (bring your own), venture through forests old and new to view McCommas Bluff itself from across the river. If there’s time, we’ll hoof it to a large pond frequented by waterfowl next to the McCommas Bluff Landfill. Final route depends on the weather as there are a couple of creek crossings.

Registration: For registration complete the RSVP on this page.  You will also be asked to sign a Participant Agreement.  Note: due to the limit of the number of participants, we request that you only register if you are going to attend.  You will be contacted with outing details after registration. If you would like more information, please contact Jim Robarge at robargeDSC@gmail.com.

This is unfettered nature. Plan for your hike:
  • Trails are mostly level but with some steep grades and we will go off trail and over creeks.
  • We’ll walk at a good pace, with stops for exceptional naturalist points of interest.
  • Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear boots or closed-toe shoes and long pants to protect your legs. Carry sunscreen, bug spray, personal medications, etc.
  • Bring water, a sack lunch, and snacks.

Level: Moderate
