Bunched Arrowhead- Travelers Rest, SC

Sierra Upstate, in partnership with Frank Holleman from the Naturaland Trust, is hosting a volunteer work day to help restore a newly protected Bunched Arrowhead preserve in Travelers Rest.

This 25-acre forest and wetland site supports a significant population of endangered Bunched Arrowhead and was rescued from nearby development. While major cleanup has already occurred, small invasive plants remain—and we need your help!

There is a substantial population of endangered Bunched Arrowhead in the seep. We have removed tons of trash, old buildings, and large unwanted Asian hollies from the site, but small privet, Asian hollies, and Japanese honeysuckle remain. Eventually, this site will become a new Heritage Preserve. You will enjoy seeing it!

🗓 Saturday, March 7, 2026
⏰ Start time: 9:30 a.m. | Work 2–3 hours
🧤 Tasks: Pull knee-high or smaller invasives
👖 Long pants, long sleeves, and good work/garden gloves are recommended.  Wear shoes that you can wear in on boggy soil. Bring a small digging tool if you have one available.

PLEASE NOTE:  No restroom facilities are available at this work site.

Come late or leave early. You’ll enjoy seeing this special place while helping protect critical habitat. You will be notified via email if this event is cancelled due to inclement weather. Volunteers will receive a copy of the Official Guide of SC State Parks!

PARKING: The site is at the corner of Coleman Road and East Bowers Road in Travelers Rest.  You will park on the Coleman Rd side, where you will see a short gravel driveway; look for cars parked in a grassy area on the RIGHT if you are traveling down Coleman Rd. or on the LEFT if you come in on East Bowers Rd. and take a left at the Coleman intersection.

From Greenville/south:  Take Highway 25 north past Furman and Travelers Rest.  Go past the Spinx at Tigerville Road.  After a couple of miles (go past the greenhouses on the right), turn left on East Bowers Road.  Take East Bowers Road a couple of miles past a big development.  Turn left on Coleman Road and turn into the driveway on the left side of Coleman Road. From the north:  Go south on Highway 25 from Highway 11.  Look for East Bowers Road on the right.  Follow East Bowers Road until a T intersection with Coleman Road.  Turn left on Coleman and then enter the driveway on the left side of Coleman Road.
