Join us for a relaxed introduction to birding at Long Pond Preserve, a diverse and beautiful landscape featuring swamp, bog, and marsh habitats, as well as wooded and meadow areas tucked into the Poconos. This preserve is known for its excellent birdwatching opportunities and is also home to rare butterflies and moths, making it a special place to slow down and observe the natural world.

We’ll be using the Long Pond Birding Guide to help us identify birds as we move through the trails, learning the basics of bird identification by sight, sound, and habitat. This program is beginner-friendly and focused on building confidence, curiosity, and connection to the land.

Our hike will be a roughly 4.0-mile loop with a total elevation gain of 157 feet. Trails are somewhat maintained, but participants should expect rocks, small gravel, roots, stumps, and fallen branches along the way. Please wear sturdy footwear and come prepared for variable trail conditions.

This is a family friendly outing, but unfortunately, since it is an outing focused on viewing wildlife we ask that you leave your four legged family members at home.

📍 Please note: Seasonal hunting is permitted at Long Pond Preserve in accordance with PA Game Commission regulations. We will remain on established trails and wear appropriate visibility as needed.
