Hooven Forest Weeding Party
Over time, our local forests have been invaded by non-native plants and bushes that smother and halt the growth of native shrubs and trees. On Sunday, March 29th, we urge you to join others to show some love for a very special place: Hooven Forest. Come by yourself or bring your whole family to help us remove the invasive holly.

Get outside and do some good for our local forest! Enjoy a couple of hours out in nature with like-minded, friendly people who care about the environment.
In this event, we will focus on physically removing invasive holly in the south side of Hooven Forest. We will note, but leave, any larger holly trees that possess a falling hazard for another time.
Located just north of Woodinville and a few miles east of WA-522, Hooven Forest contains 183 acres of old growth treasures. It is made up of 100-year-old Douglas firs, Western red cedars, and important wetland areas, accessible by a community-developed trail system. Once you visit this gem you will want to return with friends and visitors.
What to expect:
- Introductory briefing on identifying and removing targeted invasive species
- Identified work locations, prioritized by need
- Opportunity to work individually or as part of a group
- Work at your own pace, take breaks as desired
At the conclusion of our forest work there is no need to rush off. The forest contains well-maintained trails and is a delight to explore.
What to Bring & Wear
- Footwear: Comfortable trail shoes or light work boots—there will be roots and perhaps some muddy spots.
- Clothing: Long sleeves will help protect against scratchy holly. Dress in layers, such as a T-shirt, shirt, fleece or light jacket. Spring in the forest can be cool and even wet, so bring a rain‑resistant outer layer just in case.
- Nutrition: Maybe a sack lunch, snacks, and refillable water bottle.
- Equipment: Work gloves. Non-electric loppers and pruners, trowels, etc.
- Optional: Sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and small daypack for your lunch and layers. Consider a camera and insect repellent.
Registration & Accessibility
- The event is family friendly and open to everyone, but pre‑registration is required through Sierra Club Sno‑Isle group. (Sierra Club membership is not required, but encouraged.)
- Participants will also sign the DNR Volunteer Registration form upon arrival.
- Trails are easy to moderate forest paths, but we will be working off-trail in a variety of topography. Let us know if you require mobility considerations.
