Outing Description:  Bring your morning Joe or a cup a tea and spend a morning with the birds at one of Jacksonville’s prominent urban parks, Riverside Park. The birds are in the nesting season.  This should be a great opportunity to see birds and their fledglings.
Elizabeth Filippelli, Cindy Corey of the Duval Audubon Society and Lisa Williams from Sierra Club, will present a program on what you can do to save our migrating birds and our local bird population.  Learn about the perils of artificial light pollution and how reflective glass is impacting our migrating birds.  Learn what you can do to support Light’s Out taking action at your own home.  Afterwards, we will have a guided walk through the park listening and learning about the birds that make it their home. We will also learn about the Riverside Park Kind Outreach and Rescue Pilot and the status of the ongoing plans to create a more wildlife friendly environment for our own native birds.  The Pilot is a coalition of conservation partners including Duval Audubon, Sierra Club Northeast Florida, COJ Parks, FWS, TIMU, Friends of Riverside Park and IXIA Native Plant Society.   We should see and hear some of our amazing songbirds in the spring morning air.

Sierra Club will provide rolls and or snacks.  Please bring your coffee in tea in a reusable cup that you can take back home with you.
Our Presenters: Elizabeth Filippelli, is currently serving as Vice President and Director of Conservation Co-Lead of the Northeast Florida Lights Out Program for The Duval Audubon Society.  She is also Program Manager for the Timucuan Parks Foundation.  Elizabeth is a passionate conservation leader and advocate working to protect Florida's natural environment and wildlife.  Elizabeth's work with Lights Out North Florida (LONF) focuses on building partnerships with City of Jacksonville Leaders including Mayor Donna Deegan, Ashantae Green, Sustainability Manager, Jacksonville Jaguars and major businesses in Downtown Jacksonville to spread awareness of the perils to birds of artificial light pollution and Cindy
Corey is a member of Duval Audubon and the Lead Bird Steward for the Riverside Park Kind Outreach and Rescue Pilot Project.  Cindy is a life-long wildlife advocate and volunteers as a Collision Monitor for Lights Out Northeast Florida, surveying the birds that have been killed or injured by hitting the reflective glass in Downtown Jacksonville.
