Contemplative Walk in Saunders Woods
Contemplative Walk in Saunders Woods. We will spend approximately 2 hours walking the network of trails in Saunders Woods Preserve, in Gladwyn. It is a hilly park full of ravines, and some small trail obstructions like roots and rocks. Trails can be muddy near the bottom by the stream, especially in Spring. The trails are accessible to all that can walk unassisted, but bear in mind there are slopes throughout the preserve. During the walk, I will encourage us to spend a some time in silence, perhaps connecting more deeply to the place, as well as ourselves. There will also be time to learn about Saunders Woods Preserve.

Please join us for a guided walk In Saunders Woods Preserve. We will spend an hour and a half to two hours in the Preserve. The trail runs downhill into a ravine before looping back uphill to the parking lot. There is 1 road crossing each direction along the trail. The elevation gain is approximately 90 feet down, and 90 feet back up, throughout the course of the walk. We will be in the woods so it will most likely be cooler and more humid, especially in the lower elevation areas of the preserve, along the stream. It can get muddy, so wear sturdy footwear, and bring a walking stick if you have one. The outing will be rain or shine, within reason, so dress accordingly for the weather that day.Our time together on the trail will be an opportunity for us to connect in shared interest, as well as a time to decompress and center ourselves with a little reprieve from the chaos of the modern world. This is a time to turn off your cell phones. My desire is to spend the first part of the walk in silence. This will be a time to be present in the moment, knowing that you are giving yourself space to heal and recharge. A time for peace. To notice. To reflect. Later on our walk I will speak to the importance of having access to and preserving places like Saunders Woods, and the good that the non-profit Natural Lands is doing to protect and maintain spaces under its umbrella.
