From the staff at Tom Yawkey: April is a great month for shorebirds, as well as woodpeckers and other forest birds. Of course, we always have wading birds and maybe a few ducks. We will make at least 2 different stops and depending on how much time we spend at each one/how many birds we are seeing, possibly more. This trip requires the ability to walk up to three miles round trip. We will be walking on Cat Island in long leaf pine forest or around lakes on uneven, grassy or sometimes muddy grounds depending upon if it’s recently rained. There will be a stop for a lunch break.
The Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center is a 24,000-acre protected natural preserve which conducts educational guided field trips for thousands of visitors each year free of charge, and plays a critical role hosting landmark biology and wildlife research studies on alligators, loggerhead sea turtle, and other species.
