Join the Santa Lucia Chapter of the Sierra Club for a special guided outing with the SLO Beaver Brigade to explore local beaver habitat and learn about one of nature’s most remarkable ecosystem engineers.

Please purchase one ticket per person. Each participant must buy their own ticket so they can digitally sign the required waiver during registration.

During this “Watery Walk,” participants will visit beaver habitat on the Salinas River in Atascadero. Your guide will share fascinating insights about beaver ecology and help you learn how to recognize signs of beaver activity in the riverbed.

Topics on the walk may include:
• Beaver habits and behavior
• What beavers eat
• How to identify signs of beaver activity
• Why beavers build dams
• How beaver dams improve water quality
• The role of beaver dams in wildfire resilience and drought recovery
• And much more!

While it’s rare to see beavers themselves—since they are mostly active at night—you will likely see the evidence they leave behind, such as dams, chewed trees, and altered waterways.

The exact meeting place will be determined the week before the event based on where along the river beavers are most active. Participants will receive the meeting location by email one week before the tour.

💧 Be prepared: On tours along the Salinas River, walking through sand and shallow water (sometimes knee-deep) is required.
