Srividya Maganti is an Ocean Conservation Campaign Associate at Environment California, a statewide environmental advocacy organization, where she works to strengthen and defend California’s Marine Protected Area (MPA) network. Prior to joining Environment California, she worked with community-led conservation organizations across South America and as a freelance journalist covering environmental issues. She graduated from Harvard in 2023 with a degree in Social Studies. Srividya lives in Los Angeles, where she enjoys writing, volunteering with wildlife organizations, and exploring both urban spaces and the natural world.

At the March Sierra Talk, Srividya will provide an overview of current efforts to strengthen and defend Marine Protected Areas along the Southern Coast, including the San Diego area. She will discuss the ecological value of California’s oceans, the threats facing marine life and existing protections, proposed changes to the MPA network, and what to expect from the California Fish and Game Commission this spring as it considers changes to the MPA network.
