🌊 Let’s Go to the Beach!
Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve, just south of Guadalupe, is an extraordinary coastal landscape. Home to 550-foot dunes—the tallest on the West Coast—and the Santa Maria River Estuary, this area is both beautiful and ecologically significant. Also known as Main Street Beach or Guadalupe Beach, it offers sweeping views of the dunes, wildlife, and Point Sal.
The dunes provide habitat for many rare and endemic species and hold some of the region’s oldest cultural history, with Chumash presence dating back more than 10,000 years. Native plants such as beach evening primrose, beach sand verbena, beach morning glory, surf thistle, and dune dandelion thrive here. The preserve is also home to notable wildlife including the Western Snowy Plover and the California Least Tern. 🐦
Join docent Ray Segovia for a guided exploration of the natural and cultural history of this unique landscape, with dramatic views of the dunes and the Santa Maria Estuary.
🎒 What to Bring:
Sturdy walking shoes, water, sun protection, and curiosity!
🚗 Parking & Transportation
We will meet at the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center for a brief introduction from our docent, then caravan to the beach. Parking at the beach is limited, so ridesharing is encouraged.
