What happens to nuclear waste, and who decides, has major implications for Michigan and the Great Lakes. On April 2 at 7 PM, join veteran nuclear watchdogs Kevin Kamps and Michael Keegan to learn what’s at stake and how communities are pushing back.
With more than three decades of experience in grassroots organizing, environmental justice, and nuclear watchdog work, they have participated in international peace marches spanning thousands of miles and led national campaigns that successfully blocked high-level radioactive waste dumps across the United States and Canada. Kevin and Michael have been at the forefront of efforts to protect communities and ecosystems from nuclear risks.
Throughout his career with organizations such as the Nuclear Information and Resource Service, Beyond Nuclear, and now as Executive Director of Don’t Waste Michigan, Kevin has worked alongside Indigenous nations, frontline communities, and environmental coalitions to challenge dangerous nuclear waste proposals, including efforts at Yucca Mountain, the Great Lakes region, and the Southwest U.S.
Michael Keegan, a leader in the anti-nuclear movement, is opposing the restart of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant. He and his coalition have filed a federal lawsuit, arguing the restart violates the Atomic Energy Act and raises serious safety concerns. Keegan has also intervened in multiple nuclear cases and testified at both U.S. and Canadian federal levels as part of a broader environmental effort to stop the project.
In this presentation, they will share insights from their decades of advocacy, discuss ongoing nuclear challenges affecting Michigan and the Great Lakes, and explore what it will take to ensure a safer, more sustainable future.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from leading voices in nuclear accountability and environmental protection.
