Coastal Virginia - Sierra Club presents

Developing Coastal Resilience in Tidewater
Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 7 p.m.
Greer Environmental Sciences Building, Room 155
Virginia Wesleyan University
On Tuesday evening, April 14, the Coastal Virginia Group is sponsoring Developing Coastal Resilience in Tidewater. We are fortunate to have two experts speak on this topic. Rear Admiral Ann Phillips, USN (Ret), served as Special Assistant for Coastal Adaptation and Protection under Governor Ralph Northam, and more recently as Maritime Administrator, US Department of Transportation. After 20 years with NOAA, Andrew Larkin, JD, now serves as Assistant Director of Engagement for the ODU Institute for Coastal Adaptation and Resilience (ICAR). Our speakers will review past and present efforts to stem the tide of sea level rise, as well as addressing plans for the future. All this is happening at a time when various federal environmental safeguards are being diluted, if not outright eliminated. Fortunately, state and local organizations, both private and public, have been stepping in. Such local action offers greater opportunity for community involvement, which is invaluable for the success of this endeavor. Come and learn how you can do your part to support our coastal environment.
