The Organ Pipe National monument is home of many species of emblematic and in some cases endemic plants and animals, inside of this beautiful monument is Quitobaquito a fresh water spring where the Hia-ced O'odham people has conducted ceremonies since time immemorial.
With the help of Organ Pipe NM rangers we will do our community science inventory of species of the area, they will also share with us conservation efforts to preserve this sacred site.
Border Bio Blitz 2026 The future of Quitobaquito is uncertain as the Department of Homeland Security attempts to build a secondary wall that will go right next to the spring, potentially drain affecting the species leaving on it.

From People in Tucson we will meet at the Parking lot of the Historic Y at 5:30 am and drive to meet park Rangers at Organ Pipe National monument visitor center.
After that we will drive together to the springs where we will be learning about the history of conservation of the place and also how to join the Bio blitz group.
The return time will be approximately 3 pm.
Snacks and water will be provided, its encouraged to bring your own lunch.

El Monumento Nacional Organ Pipe alberga numerosas especies de plantas y animales emblemáticos y, en algunos casos, endémicos. Dentro de este hermoso monumento se encuentra Quitobaquito, un manantial de agua dulce donde el pueblo Hia-ced O'odham ha realizado ceremonias desde tiempos inmemoriales.
Con la ayuda de los guardaparques del Monumento Nacional Organ Pipe, realizaremos un inventario científico comunitario de las especies de la zona. También compartirán con nosotros los esfuerzos de conservación para preservar este sitio sagrado. Border Bio Blitz 2026: El futuro de Quitobaquito es incierto, ya que el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional intenta construir un muro secundario justo al lado del manantial, lo que podría afectar a las especies que lo habitan.

Desde Tucson, nos reuniremos en el estacionamiento del YMCA histórico a las 5:30 a. m. y nos dirigiremos al centro de visitantes del Monumento Nacional Organ Pipe para encontrarnos con los guardaparques.
Después, nos dirigiremos juntos a los manantiales, donde aprenderemos sobre la historia de la conservación del lugar y cómo unirnos al grupo de Bio Blitz.
Regresaremos aproximadamente a las 3:00 p. m.
Se proporcionarán refrigerios y agua; se recomienda traer su propio almuerzo.
