Join us for a backpack around the southern end of Lake Tahoe. Trip is one car camp day, 4 backpack days plus a day hike day. The final day of this trip is strenuous (nearly 11 Miles and 2700 ft elevation gain), but we will be able to ditch our backpacks and dayhike to get a great view of the entire Lake Tahoe basin. The previous more moderate days of the trip will help get you ready for this larger ascent and longer mileage day. We start by gathering at a campsite in near Lake Tahoe for a day to enjoy the lake and Tahoe environment. We will also arrange car positioning for the point to point backpack. The first two backpack days will go through a section with multiple lakes, where we will camp at lakes. Then we will transition to a section where there are meadows and views. The backpack days will be less than 8 miles and 2000 ft elevation gain. We finish with a dayhike to the highest peak looking over Lake Tahoe from the south. Participants should be in good shape, with some prior backpacking experience. Costs- your share of campsite costs, anticipated to be between $14 and $20. Please contact Kris to ensure you are a good fit for this trip. We will have a Zoom meeting prior to the trip for participants to meet each other, and self coordinate carpools. Carpooling from San Diego is encouraged since this is a long drive. Although you can RSVP through this website, leader or assistant will need to approve your apparent capability for this trip. To do this we will contact you regarding your gear and your backpacking / physical conditioning.
The final trailhead requires high clearance vehicles. There is a spot for perhaps parking one non-high clearance vehicle and shuttling driver / passengers along this road.
Level: Strenuous (10 mi 2700 ft gain)
Cost: Share of $60 for campsite + additional vehicle fees
Signup Restrictions: Leader must approve your capability to handle this hike/backpack
Cancellation Policy: Activity is held rain or shine, but may be altered due to inclement weather
