O: Gabrielino Trail: JPL to Brown Mountain Dam. Enjoy an 8-mile round trip hike from the parking lot near JPL to the waterfall/dam. The trail is mostly flat ( 640 feet of gain) and there is considerable shade. The trail follows the stream course. There are multiple stream crossings; your feet will probably get wet. The trip is expected to take 4 to 5 hours. Bring enough water and hiking shoes. We will stop for a rest and BYO snacks or lunch near the dam. This is a frontcountry hike. Meet at the JPL Bridge, Explorer Rd, Altadena, CA 91001. Take Explorer Rd. starting at intersection of Windsor Ave. and Ventura St. , follow it down east side of Arroyo, then north to parking area near JPL bridge. Signup Instructions: This is considered a Sierra Club Frontcountry hike. Sign up online, read and sign the waiver to save time at the trailhead.
Recommended Items: 2 liters of water, hiking shoes, snacks or lunch, clothing layers, trekking poles and hat may be useful.
Signup Restrictions: The hike difficulty would be considered easy except for the significant length.
