6-mile, moderate hike. One of the Monongahela National Forest’s largest Roadless Areas, Canaan Mountain is a high-elevation plateau ranging in elevations from 4,145 feet at Pointy Knob to 3,100 feet near Blackwater Falls State Park. Trails can be rocky, or muddy and wet, so be prepared to get your feet wet. We will hike about 6 miles of the Allegheny Trail (or Davis Trail) from Blackwater Falls State Park to Canaan Valley State Park. This is a great chance to see why Roadless Areas are special and worthy of protection!
