Mineral King Loop, Chagoopa Plateau

Join us for this classic trip through the Mineral King area. This area is spectacular, with its mountains, passes, canyons, meadows and beautiful basins of lakes. Day one the trail climbs steadily to go over Timber Gap then continue climbing along Cliff Creek to camp at Pinto Lake. Day 2 we continue over Black Rock Pass and descend into the Little Five Lakes basin. Day 3 we take a detour to the seldom visited Chagoopa Plateau, with its distinct ecosystem. Day 4 we retrace our steps and continue to the Big Five Lakes basin for a rest day. Day 6 we make a gradual climb through Lost Canyon to visit Columbine Lake and cross Sawtooth Pass to camp at Monarch Lake, then out on Day7. Each of these days has unique experiences, striking beauty and serenity. Total 48 miles 13,000 gain. Strenuous. This is a backcountry trip that requires completing a medical form online. Register online then send information about your recent backpack experience and current conditioning to the leaders. Registration does not guarantee acceptance. Leaders James Hagar and Sharon Moore.
