Join Sierra Club’s West Los Angeles Group and Santa Monica Mountains Task Force for a special Book Club and book signing event featuring local author and longtime Sierra Club trail crew member Mike Robinson, who will discuss his new novel, The Trailcutter, available from Bookshop.org. This will be an in person event held in Culver City, location will be sent after you RSVP.
Set primarily in the Santa Monica Mountains, The Trailcutter is a compelling blend of eco-fiction, mystery, and character-driven storytelling. While predominantly fiction, the book mentions Sierra Club trail building legends Ron and Mary Ann Webster and their history with the trails of the Santa Monica Mountains, and the Afterword also mentions Sierra Club, the Santa Monica Mountains Task Force, Trail Days and the Trails Council in case people want to investigate more.
The novel follows Leonard “Lee” Skay, an out-of-work trail builder whose life becomes intertwined with a mysterious canyon dweller while constructing a trail in Malibu. As unexplained shootings rattle the region, Lee is drawn into a suspenseful and potentially deadly mystery. Along the way, readers will discover rich references to the history, landscapes, and hiking trails of the Santa Monica Mountains.
Mike Robinson is a lifelong Angeleno, editor, and award-winning author whose work often explores the intersection of people, place, and the natural world. A member of the Santa Monica Mountains Task Force and an active trail volunteer, he brings an insider’s perspective to the landscapes that serve as the backdrop for his fiction.
“The Trailcutter takes off and never lets go.” — Richard Dooling, National Book Award Finalist
