The Sierra Club's Southeast Michigan Group (SEMG) invites members, supporters, and community partners to join us for the Metro Detroit Parks & Wildlands Forum, an evening exploring the health and future of Southeast Michigan's rivers, parks, wildlife and natural areas.
Many of our region's most treasured parks, trails, and greenways are connected by the Rouge, Huron, Clinton, Detroit, and other rivers. Yet a recent regional Watershed Report Card gave Southeast Michigan's rivers an overall grade of just "C," highlighting both the progress that has been made and the work that still lies ahead.
Our featured speaker, Ashley Flintoff, Executive Director of the Friends of the Rouge, will review the findings of the Southeast Michigan Watershed Report Card and discuss what the grades reveal about the health of our region's waterways. She will also highlight the collaborative efforts of Friends of the Rouge and other watershed organizations to improve water quality, restore habitat, reduce flooding, expand public access, and strengthen the rivers that connect many of Metro Detroit's parks and natural areas.
The program will run approximately one hour and include introductions, the featured presentation, audience questions and discussion, and time to connect with fellow attendees before and after the program.
Attend in person or join us online. Virtual participation makes it easy to be part of the conversation from anywhere. Registered participants attending online will receive meeting information by email the day before the event. The in-person event will be held at the Outdoor Adventure Center, located at 1801 Atwater Street, Detroit, MI 48207.
Whether you're passionate about clean water, conservation, outdoor recreation, or simply want to learn more about the rivers that flow through our communities, we hope you'll join us for this informative community forum.
