Join us for a hands-on natural dye workshop using invasive phragmites to explore its impact on the Great Salt Lake watershed, while learning sustainable dyeing techniques.
Space is limited for t-shirt participants, so sign up ASAP if you’d like a shirt.
If you’d like to participate in dyeing your very own t-shirt, please email Rachael at rachael@utahfibershed.org to pay the $40 per shirt, and tell her which size you’d like. (By Mon July 6 if possible.) These will be cool custom shirts, that are pre-mordanted for the phragmites die.
You are also welcome to come for free and observe the dyeing process, participate in the phragmites collection, and enjoy dinner on us.
Participants should be comfortable with mild bushwhacking & uneven ground, if participating in the cutting of the phragmites. Please bring gloves and cutters if you have them, as supplies are limited.
Meet at the Dr. O. Roi Hardy Park Pavilion at 5:30pm. We will then be cutting phragmites tops along the Jordan River to use in the dyeing process. After, we will have a presentation on the impacts of invasive phragmites to the Jordan River and Great Salt Lake watershed, and a hands-on learning workshop to learn how to make a beautiful green dye with the phragmites tops. Dinner will be served.
This event is put on by Utah Fibershed, The Jordan River Commission, and Utah Sierra Club.
We hope to see you there!
