We will be hiking the Black Mountain along the Nighthawk Trail. We'll be hiking to the summit of Black Mountain where we'll have a snack and discuss some orienteering basics using a map and compass to point to some key landmarks.
This is a 4-mile loop. Two miles out and two miles back. The trail is well maintained and there is about a 1000 ft elevation gain. This is considered a moderate hike; however, it can get hot and the hike is very exposed with minimal to no shade.
You should be prepared with your ten
essentials; however, spend extra time ensuring you have plenty of water, sunscreen and protective clothing and a sun hat. Its easy to get sun burned or over heated on this trail and we want to make sure everybody has a safe and fun experience.
Contact the leader, Bill Symans, for trailhead location and start time.
