🌿🌊 Seaweed Foraging & Tidepool Exploration at Estero Bluffs 🌊🌿

🦀 Join the Sierra Club Santa Lucia Chapter for a fascinating evening exploring the hidden world of seaweed along the beautiful Estero Bluffs coastline!

🐚 Sierra Club Santa Lucia Chapter Board Member Jack DuPuy, a local seaweed enthusiast and educator with a master's degree in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, will introduce participants to the fascinating world of seaweed foraging. Jack will share the history of seaweed harvesting locally and around the world, along with engaging scientific insights into seaweed classification, ecology, and the critical role these marine organisms play in healthy ocean ecosystems.

🌊 Following a brief introduction, participants will make their way down to the shoreline (via a somewhat steep trail) to observe, identify, and even taste a variety of edible seaweeds. The outing will also include time to explore tide pools and discover the many fascinating creatures that inhabit this rich intertidal environment.

This approximately 1½-hour outing has been timed to coincide with a favorable low tide, providing excellent opportunities for exploration and discovery.

📅 Date: Friday, July 31
Time: Please arrive between 5:15–5:30 PM. Low tide occurs at 5:46 PM.
📍 Location: Estero Bluffs State Park (specific parking information will be provided prior to the event).

🎒 What to Bring:
🧥 Dress in layers, as coastal weather can change quickly.
🥾 Wear sturdy walking shoes with good traction; the path to the shoreline is somewhat steep and rocky.
💧 Bring water and sun protection if desired.

ℹ️ Please Note:
🚻 There are no restroom facilities available at the meeting location.
🚗 Parking information will be provided closer to the event date.
⚠️ Participants should be comfortable walking on uneven terrain and rocky shoreline surfaces.
