Elders Grove Hike in Mohawk Trail State Forest
Please join the Sierra Club Massachusetts Chapter, Wendell State Forest Alliance, and Standing Trees on a guided fall hike to the renowned Elders Grove in Mohawk Trail State Forest. This grove of old growth trees contains some of the tallest white pines in the Northeast, most exceeding 160 feet high. The hike will be along a trail that follows the Deerfield River and offers sublime views of the forest and river valley. The walk to the trailhead and the hike are approximately 1.5 miles with a 150 - 200 foot elevation gain.The guide will share flora and fauna observations throughout the hike. Also, the outing will be in the middle of foliage season where local color can be expected along the trail and surrounding forest.

This grove of old growth trees contains some of the tallest white pines in the Northeast, most exceeding 160 feet in height.
The hike will be on a trail that follows the Deerfield River and offers sublime views of the forest and river valley. The walk to the trailhead and the hike are approximately 1.5 miles round trip with a 150 - 200 foot elevation gain. We will share flora and fauna observations throughout the hike and discuss the area's unique history and geology. As an added bonus, the outing will be in the middle of foliage season where local color can be expected along the trail and surrounding forest.
Further information regarding the hike, including parking and exact trailhead location, will be provided to those who register.

Signup Restrictions: The hike is limited to 22 registrants plus one - two guides and one outings leader.
Additional Directions: In the event of inclement weather on October 3rd, the rain date is October 4th.
