Please join us for the 2026 9/11 Day of Service at Oscar Scherer State Park! With 15 miles of trails, this park provides solitude, beauty, challenge and a healthy adventure for everyone. Oscar Sherer is a popular stopover for bicyclists and walkers on the Legacy Trail, making this an important place for the surrounding community and a worthwhile stop for travelers.

Volunteers are invited to help pick up trash and remove exotics within the park's scrub forest: crucial habitat for the endemic Florida scrub-jay. The Sierra Club- Florida Chapter is partnering with the Friends of Oscar Scherer State Park to restore this remnant of highly endangered habitat. 

On the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, Americans of all ages and backgrounds are invited to join and lead community service projects to honor the lives, legacy, and service of those we lost on 9/11. In this 25th anniversary year, honor the heroes by becoming a hero yourself and serve alongside neighbors and strangers alike to strengthen the bonds that hold our communities together.

SCHEDULE:

• 8:30am — Coffee, pastries, and bagels at Pavilion #1
• 9:00am — Organizers arrive, meet at event site, sign in, clean-up materials distributed
• 9:30am — Workday assignments
• 11:30am — Return, load trash into dumpster, clean up sites

WHAT TO BRING:
For sun and heat bring a water bottle and sunburn protection. To minimize plastic waste please bring your own water bottle full. We will have a safe drinking water tank for refills. Volunteers should wear gloves, long pants, long sleeved shirts, boots or sneakers and hats. We will provide tarps and garbage bags.  Restroom facilities are available.
