Continuing our Fall Birding Series with quality time outdoors, new friends, and hopefully some lifers as we bird the Everglades & Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area. Every year, tens of millions of birds fly south over Florida before they take on their daring flight over the Caribbean. Lets catch a glimpse into the wonderful world of birds by grabbing our binoculars, opening our ears, and waking up just a little earlier to spot our feathered friends on their journey!
We will be starting our birding adventure at 7:30 AM at the West Broward boat ramp off of US-27 and I-75. I have found the early alarm and extra driving well worth it at this personal favorite birding spot of mine. We will take the trail at the southern end of the lot, which offers views of L-38W and the greater Everglades ecosystem. The dirt trail offers great views for birds and other wildlife, but lacks conveniences like much shade and no bathrooms. Come prepared for lots of standing and about 3 miles of walking (with plenty of breaks). Please bring enough water, snacks, and appropriate clothing. Also bring your binoculars, cameras, bird-apps, and anything else you need for hiking in the Florida sun.
