Join us for a presentation by Harvey Halpern that details the myriad threats to our public lands in Utah and the citizens proposal to preserve over 9 million acres of these spectacular lands as permanent Wilderness. Harvey will orient us to what the term Wilderness means, types of National land, and foundational protection legislation like the 1964 Wilderness Bill and the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976. America’s Redrock Wilderness Act (H.R.2467 & S.1193) currently has over 70 co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives and 18 in the Senate - let's advocate to get it more! This presentation will particularly highlight Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments and President Trump's illegal reduction in size, of each of these by 90% over the summer.
About Harvey Halpern: He has been professionally photographing Wilderness since 1978 with particular emphasis on the canyons of Southern Utah. By focusing for so long and hard on one region, he has been able to get into some truly remote areas. He delights in challenging the viewer’s perspective on size, color, and perspective itself. Harvey named two canyons in the Escalante area and has a canyon (Hard Day Harvey) named after him. You can check out Harvey's photographs
