At this meeting First Selectman Carl Fortuna and DEEP officials plan to vote on approving the plan to log (“Sustainably manage”) Stand 10 of The Preserve, the beautiful one right off Ingham Hill Road in Old Saybrook. Meaning: heavy logging equipment, trucks, noise, soil compression. More than 300 area residents have joined together as the Preserve Protection Alliance in opposition to DEEP’s plan, plus an additional 800 petition-signers, echoing the thousands who fought for 20 years to keep The Preserve undisturbed. We reject DEEP’s “Sustainable Management” plan, that would cause irreversible harm to The Preserve due to soil compaction by heavy equipment and forest fragmentation.

Please plan to attend and urge protection of The Preserve. It’s one of Connecticut's largest remaining intact coastal forest ecosystems, supporting dozens of National Diversity Data Base (NDDB)-documented rare species, wetlands, vernal pools, headwaters to three rivers and wildlife habitat of statewide importance.

Prior to the meeting, please contact key decision makers and urge them to stop the plan to log The Preserve, and to support The Preserve to be designated as a Natural Area Preserve.
