Utah's five national parks are supposed to have the clearest air in the country. Right now they don't.
The Regional Haze Rule is the piece of the Clean Air Act meant to fix that, and Utah is revising its haze plan to allow for more air pollution in the state. The Department of Environmental Quality is taking public comment through September, and what regulators hear from Utahns will shape how much pollution keeps drifting over Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion, and over the towns downwind of the smokestacks.
Join Sierra Club, HEAL Utah and the National Parks Conservation Association for an hour on what regional haze pollution actually is, what Utah's plan isn't doing to clean it up, and how to write a comment the state is legally required to read and respond to. No air policy background needed. We'll walk through it together and leave time for your questions.
