Emerald Horizon: The History of Nature in Iowa - Book Discussion
Wednesday, November 11th | 6:30 PM

Join us for an engaging community book discussion of Emerald Horizon: The History of Nature in Iowa by Cornelia F. Mutel.

The book takes readers on a journey through Iowa’s natural history, exploring how the state’s landscapes, plants, wildlife, and ecosystems have changed over time, and how human activity has shaped the environment we know today. Mutel examines Iowa’s transformation from a landscape once dominated by prairies, wetlands, forests, and diverse wildlife to one where much of the original natural landscape has been altered or lost. At the same time, Emerald Horizon looks toward the future, highlighting the importance of conservation and the opportunities we have to restore and protect Iowa’s natural heritage.

Whether you’ve read the entire book, just started, or are simply curious about Iowa’s natural history and how people can be part of the conservation solution, all are welcome. We encourage participants to check out the book from their local library and come ready for thoughtful conversation, connection, and inspiration.

No need to be an expert or finish the book, just bring your curiosity and your thoughts!
