Get an early start on the day in Mission Trails! We will start this social-paced hike on the Clairemont Mesa side of the park to hike South Fortuna Mountain. This is a challenging, approximately 5.5 mile hike with an approximate 1,000 ft elevation gain. We will finish the ascent of South Fortuna on the 200+ steep wooden steps that will get our blood pumping! The views make it all worth it. Weather permitting, there will be 360-degree views of the surrounding park and peaks. The path is mostly exposed with little to no shade, so please plan accordingly. The way down will include some steep sections with loose gravel. The weather could get warm despite our early start, so prepare with 3 liters of water minimum and protective clothing (hat, sunglasses, etc…) and/or gear and sunscreen.
