Mt Grant Challenge

This to let everyone know about it. An interesting hike that might not be going on next year. Mt. Grant is on Military property and you usually have to get a special permit.Mt. Grant Challenge The easiest 27km. (17 miles) and 2120 m (7,000ft.) of gain you will ever doHi All, Come One, Come All (Sign up link below)The Mount Grant Challenge Saturday Sept. 12, Walker/Hawthorne NV(see link below)Why, you ask? Easiest 7,000 ft gain you will do in your life.17 milesMineral County Nevada High Point No daypack needed. But a windbreaker recommended Swag wagons every 3-4miles with drinks, snacks and a porta-potty (can't get better than that)Shuttle van takes you down the mountain (save the knees)Very little descent on the way up. mostly just a gentle slope the whole way up. Summit a short class 3 scrambleYou know ahead of time (from me) that the high point is not Mt Grant, it is farther down the ridge. So you can get Mt.Grant and the County high point (I have not been to Mt Grant Challange the 2 times I have done this) So don't take it for Granted. In 2019 one person went to Mt Grant and didn't hit the county highpoint. Not said in LinkFirst time since Covid that they have done this. No guarantees they will be doing it again. So do it now Easy I said. My time 7 years ago; 4hr 56min. 16.9mi. (3.0mph not bad for 7,000 ft. of gain)No such thing as a free lunch (or snacks) Fee is $75. Half for $35 (they take you up in a van to the halfway point and you start from there. Seems that should be more expensive. I'm guessing it is 8.5mi and 3,500ft of gain. Did I mention you get a T-shirt. A Token Coin. Free spaghetti dinner Friday night. Things just don't get better. (Well they could) All statements above are purported to be true. but some are based on passed eventslink ;https://www.visitmineralcounty.com/9/11-mt-grant-memorial-challenge?utm_source=copilot.comMost people are either camping at Walker Lake or motelling in Hawthorne on Friday night. Event starts at 6:30AM for the 17mi 6:00AM for the half FREE bragging rights (Yes, FREE) Enjoy.Jeff
