Join Sierra Club Connecticut for a 7 mile walk to protest the proposed Eversource Pipeline under the Connecticut River. This pipeline threatens Connecticut’s namesake river, while increasing utility costs and our reliance on methane gas, which is harming our air and climate.
The pipeline is named the Southeast Resilience Pipeline (SERP), which we are calling the SERPent pipeline, because of its potential harm to our river, communities, and climate. This walk will be an opportunity to learn more about this proposal, hear from speakers on the pipeline, connection with nature and utility justice, while coming together with others to take action and protest this destructive and unnecessary project.
Walk accessibility:The walk is 7 miles and the first few miles are hilly. There is a mix of walking on back roads (with a couple of large road crossings), and the airline trail. Please only sign up for the walk if you feel confident that you are able to walk the 7 miles (if you need a more detailed map of the walk/terrain, please email sena.wazer@sierraclub.org). There are no bathrooms available at the beginning of or during the walk. The end of the walk is near a Stop and Shop, McDonalds, and Dunkin.
The walk will include a water break (~4mi, 1.5hr in), and a water/snack break (~1.5mi, 2hr in). Then we will finish out the remaining ~1mi, 30min of the walk. Note: These stops are subject to change.
If you are unable to do the walk, but would still like to participate, please join us at the start of the walk to hear from speakers!
