Solar Freedom in Kansas: How You Can Help Expand Access to Affordable Solar

Solar access shouldn't depend on whether you live in an HOA, own the right kind of roof, or can afford a traditional rooftop installation. Kansas can create more pathways for consumers to participate in solar and we need Kansans to speak up to make it happen.Join us October 22 to learn more, get involved, and help build support for solar freedom in Kansas before the legislature returns.

Kansans should have more choices in how they produce and benefit from electricity. But today, barriers can prevent many people from accessing solar- whether it's an HOA restriction, the cost and complexity of traditional rooftop solar, or simply not having a roof that's right for solar.

Join Sierra Club Kansas for a public webinar on October 22 to learn about three policies we’re working to advance during the 2027 legislative session: Homeowner Associations (HOA) Solar Freedom, Plug-In Solar, and Community Solar.

We'll talk about how these policies could give Kansas consumers more options to produce their own electricity, participate in solar, and potentially manage their energy costs.

We'll cover:

  • HOA Solar Freedom: Learn how HOA restrictions can prevent homeowners from installing solar and what we can do to protect Kansans' right to make energy choices about their own homes.
  • Plug-In Solar: Learn how small, plug-and-play solar systems could give more Kansans, including renters and people who can't install traditional rooftop solar, another way to produce some of their own electricity.
  • Community Solar: Learn how shared solar projects could allow renters, homeowners, businesses, and others who can't install rooftop solar to participate in solar energy.
  • Consumer affordability: Explore how expanding access to different forms of solar could give Kansans more choices for managing their energy costs.
  • How you can help: Learn how to contact your legislators, build support for these policies, and make sure lawmakers hear from Kansans before the 2027 legislative session.

Why join us? Solar access shouldn't depend on whether you live in an HOA, own the right kind of roof, or can afford a traditional rooftop installation. Kansas can create more pathways for consumers to participate in solar and we need Kansans to speak up to make it happen.

Join us October 22 to learn more, get involved, and help build support for solar freedom in Kansas before the legislature returns.

The 2027 legislative session is coming and now is the time to make your voice heard.
