Join us on a community hike to Sawtooth Lake! This out-and-back day hike features
high alpine lakes, with beautiful views of the Sawtooth Mountains along the way. We'll share lunch together at the top, and our Outings leaders will also share information about how you can advocate for our wildlife and public lands.
Park at the Iron Creek Trail head off of Highway 21, 5-10 minutes west from Stanley. Expect to hike 10 miles, with 1,800ft of elevation gain. Plan accordingly for an adventure on the trail with a day pack for water, snacks, and warm layers.
We will provide a carpool link the week prior to the event for folks traveling from the Treasure Valley or elsewhere to ride together. Carpools are at the sole risk of participants.
What to expect:
- Meet at 9:00am at trailhead for pre-hike safety talk, introductions, and to hand out lunches
- Begin hike at 9:15 a.m., taking stops along the way to take in the views and catch a breather.
- Return to trailhead by 4pm for sign out
Trail, safety, and accessibility infoThe trail is a more challenging route than most of our Sierra Club hikes, a total of 10 miles, with 1,800ft of elevation gain. The trail is well maintained with a steady ascent and switchbacks throughout. However, weather conditions will be unpredictable, please bring appropriate gear, rain or shine, or snow.
We recommend you have experience with longer day hikes (8+ miles with elevation gain over 1000ft) to go on this trip. To complete the hike on-time, we will aim to go no slower than 2 miles/hour while moving.
Reminder it will be the shoulder season in the Sawtooths and we may experience snow and frost. Please be prepared for
all weather conditions.
You can find more information about the
hike area here, and/or reach out to our Outings Leader Wyatt if you have any other questions about accessibility or what to expect on the trail.
Safety:Our trip leaders will carry a full first aid kit along with extra water. We will be making a few stops along the way as needed to regroup, and to take photos. Trip leaders will be at the front and back of the group, communicating along the way to ensure all is well and that the group isn't too spread out.
FoodLunch is on us! Please let us know your dietary restrictions in your RSVP if you would like us to provide a meal.
Other considerations:Kids & families are welcome! All minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Please see information above to see if it would be a good fit for your kid.
Dogs are welcome, as long as they are well-behaved, comfortable around large groups of people and other dogs, and remain leashed at all times. Please also bring extra water for your dog.
Please fill out a separate registration form for each person, so we can have a signed waiver on file for each person.
We expect everyone joining this event to act respectfully and help create a safe and inclusive space for folks from marginalized identity groups. All participants must adhere to the standards of conduct in our
Participant Agreement

Cancellation Policy: Leaders will check weather conditions the day before the event. If the weather is considered unsafe, we will postpone or change the trip for a later date and communicate the new plans with all participants. If you need to cancel, please do so ASAP by emailing amanda.reed@sierraclub.org or a trip leader. Cancelling within 24 hours or not showing up to the event makes it hard for another participant to take your spot, and wastes money for your supplies cost (which as a nonprofit, isn't sustainable). If you no-show or cancel within 24 hours two times, you will not be allowed to sign up for trips for the following three months. Thanks for understanding!
